Video Games That Play Like Books and Movies
Do you ever need a break from reading? We know, reading is life. But every once in a while, we need a different form of entertainment. That’s why we came up with a list of video games that you can play that have great stories and fill more like books/movies than a console.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
The Uncharted series as a whole is great (and we recommend you play all of them), but for this list we have to give it to the second installment of the series as our top pick. The game follows Nathan Drake, a wisecracking treasure hunter who follows ancient clues to hidden treasure. The interesting puzzles, beautiful locations, and intense action scenes will make you feel like you’re in a live action movie.
Alan Wake
Want to play a spooky mystery instead? Well, Allan Wake will have you channeling you inner Hercule Poirot in no time! The story follows best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake as he tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife's disappearance. The episodic nature of the game will give you those bookish vibes, along other fun literary themes hidden throughout. This game has you hunting for clues in the dark where everything goes bump…and sometimes will even take a bite.
Grim Fandango
Want to play something a bit more lighthearted instead? Then check out Grim Fandango, a point and click adventure game set in the Land of the Dead. This game is mixture of film noir and Spanish folk history very similar to the animated film Coco. The game follows Manny Calavera, a travel agent at the Department of Death, who comes across shady dealings in the underworld. The puzzles are really fun, the characters are hilarious, and it will keep you entertained for hours. 10/10 would play again!
The Witcher
Another great video game series is The Witcher, a fantasy based action role playing game. In the game, you play as Geralt, a monster hunter with supernatural abilities. This game is great if you want to control which way the story goes, which results in various endings. Plus, there are monster hunting quests sprinkled throughout the game that are fun distractions if you're tired of the main questline. Plus, Netflix has an upcoming adaptation that you can watch after you slay this awesome game!
