Dear Internet, Sorry What Happened to Your Book, Love Ben H. Winters: Bedbugs Giveaway

Over the past few days, review copies of Ben H. Winters’ latest novel, Bedbugs, have been steadily mailing out from the Quirk HQ to bloggers everywhere. As I stuffed books and posters into manila bubble mailers, I came across one particular… er… let’s say “special” copy of Bedbugs that I’d nearly forgotten about.

See, during BEA this year, Ben signed ARCs of Bedbugs for eager fans. Unfortunately, a few copies of Bedbugs didn’t quite make it to the Book Expo in one piece. Notable, this copy, which was completely smashed in, the pages crumbled up.

Ben, being the good-humored guy he is, picked up the copy of the book and signed it anyway, for a silly online giveaway.

Dear Internet,

Sorry what happened to your book!

Love,

Ben H. Winters

Want to get this one-of-a-kind copy of Bedbugs? Just leave a comment here or retweet this post to your followers (make sure to @quirkbooks!). I’ll select one of you at random sometime next week. You’ll receive the mangled signed copy, as well as a mint condition signed copy + poster.

Come on, you didn’t think I’d just send you a beat up book, did you? I'm not the monster here. The bedbugs are. Comment and tweet away! Good luck.

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies Hits #14 on the New York Times eBook List: We Celebrate With Giveaways

So thanks to a Kindle & Nook promotion, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies hit #14 on the New York Times eBook list this week. We find ourselves wedged between some good company, hanging out with the likes of George R. R. Martin (#11: A Game of Thrones, ) and Sara Gruen (#16: Water for Elephants).

When Pride & Prejudice & Zombies first invaded bookstores in 2009, there wasn't a separate NY Times best seller list for eBooks. That didn't happen until recently. So this is a first for Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. So to celebrate and thank you for making this happen, we're hosting a little giveaway.

We're giving away ten copies of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies: Dreadfully Ever After. Penned by New York Times best selling author Steve Hockensmith, Dreadfully Ever After concludes the Pride & Prejudice & Zombies trilogy. For those of you discovering (or rediscovering!) PPZ for the first time thanks to the promotion, here's your chance to find out what happens next.

To enter, all you have to do is tweet (or retweet!) this post with the hashtag #PPZ. I'll select ten of you at random next week, and mail you a copy of Dreadfully Ever After, as well as some awesome posters of the cover.

Pride & Prejudice & Dr. Who

Sure, the syncing is a bit off… but come on. This is Pride & Prejudice mixed with Dr. Who! David Tennant would totally approve of this.

Sigh. The end of this trailer is such a tease. I wish the producers of Bridget Jones’ Diary and Love Actually would make this film.

Red Shirt Zombie Trekkie Spotted at the Copenhagen Zombie Crawl

In every corner of the globe, zombie walks are all the rage amongst the living and the undead. In shambling hordes they stumble through city streets from Seattle to Tokyo, moaning, scaring, and leaving a crimson trail. But it’s all in good fun.

Last week at the Copenhagen Zombie Crawl, the undead invaded downtown bars in the hundreds. One bold zombie, Spritt Schapiro, paid tribute to her favorite Star Trek meets the walking dead novel, Night of the Living Trekkies

Spritt made her own uniform, representing Night of the Living Trekkies as a zombiefied, red shirt Trekkie. Check out some photos below!

B-E-YAY: Bedbugs, Celebrities, Bloggers & More

Our Booth, Before the Expo Started

Last week (wow, has it been a week already?!) Quirk hopped a train to New York City for Book Expo America. We gave away a ton of Bedbugs ARCs, a number of different posters (the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children one was a big hit), some super cute totebags designed by Art Director extraordinaire Doogie Horner, and at the end of the convention, just about every book we brought with us. Thanks for that, eager readers. We didn't want to mail all of that home.

This year, our booth was right next door to Random House's, and we all found ourselves distracted by the number of celebrities coming in and out of their space. Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor from The Office) and Tyra Banks were there, promoting their upcoming titles and signing autographs.

Quirk Heads to BEA 2011!

Ah, Book Expo America. Three days, tons of publishers, hundreds of authors and a whole lot of swag. As I type this post, Quirk is busy setting up our booth. We're at booth #4428, right near our BFFs Random House.

Over the course of the next few days, a majority of the Quirk team will be meeting and greeting eager fans and potential partners at our booth. Stop by anytime on Tuesday or Wednesday to meet some of our editors, dish out your book blog's business cards to the marketing & publicity crew, get sage bits of wisdom from our sales folks, or hand out your design portfolio to our art team. Someone from each department will be there. I'll also be attending the Book Blogger Convention on Friday. Say hi, let's be friends.
