Science fiction has allowed humanity to explore its wildest dreams in terms of exceeding our technological limitations. But why should those be the only fantasies with which this vast genre allows us to experiment? Sometimes, after looking for love in all the wrong places, you find it in the last place you search: beyond the bounds of our planet. These five extraterrestrials have abducted our hearts. 

This April, The Walking Dead will be premiering its second television spinoff series, giving audiences yet another way to explore our favorite flesh-eating apocalypse. But The Walking Dead: World Beyond is just one addition to Robert Kirkman's ever-growing Zombie universe. With multiple novels, several spin-off webisodes, Funko Pops, and even an attraction at Universal Studios, it seems there’s no stopping the slow, ambling expansion of this franchise. So we’re pitching some of our favorite ideas for Walking Dead TV spinoffs. Here’s what we’re hoping to see in 2020.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Regina King is amazing. And if this is a truth you haven’t yet accepted, go watch If Beale Street Could Talk and the new HBO series Watchmen back to back. She’s incredible! We didn’t really need an excuse to celebrate her, but it’s her birthday so we’re going all out. And because we know she loves to take on literary role – see, ahem, If Beale Street Could Talk and Watchmen – we’re putting together a list of literary roles we would love to see her play.

Many writers dream of one day seeing their work on the big screen. But as a writer, who can you trust to adapt your life’s work? Sometimes the best person for the job is yourself! And that’s exactly what the writers on this list did—they adapted their own screenplays.

The holiday season is here again, and that means it’s time for Christmas movies! Hallmark has already been playing seasonal sweetness for weeks, and Netflix has launched their latest batch of Christmas-y films (including the third in the hugely popular A Christmas Prince series). However, for some people, Christmas movies don’t just include those with romance culminating on Christmas Eve, or with snowy scenes of Santa Claus and gift exchanges. Instead, some prefer to watch films that just…feel a little bit Christmas-y, even if it’s not immediately clear why: and these are some of the most popular non-holiday movies that everyone enjoys at the end of December.

It’s no wonder that Pokemon is one of the biggest franchises in the gaming world (and the cartoon world, and the toy world): everyone wishes they could have an awesome fantasy pet that is easily transportable, extraordinarily useful, and comes with a few extra powers. What child wouldn’t want that? (For that matter, what adult would turn it down?)

However, Pokemon are far from the only creatures in the world that would fulfill these requirements…at least to some degree. The world of literature is packed with creatures that would make for perfect real life pets, if only they existed.
