Whether you grew up on Winnie the Pooh, Paddington, Corduroy, or the Berenstain Bears, everyone has at least one good pop culture bear that holds a special place in their heart, but what about the lesser known bears, those just as deserving of a good bear stamp? What about the ones often mislabelled as bad bears—the ones just misunderstood?

We're here to shine some spotlight on those good bears audiences often brush under the rug or ones who, despite their standoffish exterior, are deep down (some deep deep down) good bears.

This month, we’re celebrating a true powerhouse in contemporary film: Jon Favreau. His birthday is in October, and we’re over here celebrating, wishing him many more as we eagerly await the second season of The Mandalorian. Looking back at his catalogue of producing and directing credits, we have a lot to be thankful for – Buddy the Elf and Baby Yoda? It’s too much. This year, we’re offering up a gift of our own: a book recommendation for every one of our favorite films.

It’s spooky season once again, and while everybody is gearing up to bring the scares and take it easy on Halloween night this year, there are some beings in the many realms of the known and unknown who are in their heaviest work season of the year—the monsters. Every year, people talk about what a burden it must be for Santa Claus to go about his appointed rounds, but what about those creeps who dole out the frights in October? Don’t they get any empathy? August 20th brought the one hundred and thirtieth birthday of Mr. H.P Lovecraft. Even now, decades after he penned his final weird tale, his work continues to entrance new readers. However, it also repels. In fact, Lovecraft's racist beliefs and use of tropes have tainted his colossal legacy for many. In turn, it has paved the way for a new generation of authors working to reappropriate cosmic horror.
