Ah, the holidays. It’s a time to relax, to stuff yourself with delicious food, to spend time to with friends and family, and to…commit the perfect crime. Right?

It may sound a bit jarring, but the film version of Assassin’s Creed (which steals into movie theaters on December 21^st) is not the first work to identify the link between the holidays and crime-related capers. Some of the best holiday tales are full of mischief and creative law-breaking! And here at Quirk, we have some particular favorites. Here are the ones that keep us coming back year after year.

Han: Tell me again what we’re doing here?

Leia: We agreed to watch some movie trailers for December releases.

Han: What is a movie trailer? What’s December? I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Rey: A movie trailer is a short video made to entice you to watch a movie, which is a two-hour story acted out on screen. And December is one Earth-month.

Han: I like this girl.

Finn: She’s all right.

A long time ago and in a galaxy far, far away, there's no holiday season. In fact, the only holiday viewers have seen in the Star Wars galaxy has been the Wookiee Celebration of Life Day. Yet seeing as the Skywalker family and the Millennium Falcon crew have saved the galaxy several times, they have certainly earned a gift during our festive season. Since they're far too busy with heroic adventures to deal with the mundane process of shopping for gifts, here are some suggestions to make this group of Rebel Alliance heroes happy for the holidays.

Pop culture is full of slow-burn, will-they-or-won't-they couples. Luke and Lorelai. Ross and Rachel. Mary and Matthew. Ron and Hermione. Couples whose gradual, winding paths to each other inevitably twist their fandom's stomachs into bittersweet knots while the characters themselves burn with unresolved tension. These are the ships that may take years to sail, but when they do, it's a glorious sight to behold.

There's perhaps no better example of this in modern pop culture than the sweet, slow romance between paper salesman Jim Halpert and receptionist Pam Beesly on the TV series The Office. Their quiet flirtation eventually bloomed into a solid and lasting relationship that provided much of the heart of the show throughout its nine-season run.

Hot cocoa may not be able to heal the world or fix its problems, but it is delicious enough to be momentarily comforting. (Pro hot chocolate tip: try dark chocolate hot cocoa with a churro for stirring—the sugar from the churro sweetens it just enough and is even more tasty soaked with chocolate.)

For many, Halloween means loads of candy, crazy costumes, and scary monsters. But monsters have feelings too! It may be hard to believe, but underneath the claws, fangs, and scales beats the heart of a romantic. That's why we're pairing up literature's scariest monsters in hope that they'll make a love connection.
