The Literary Roles of Nicholas Hoult

This month sees Nicholas Hoult appearing on the big screen as the legendary fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien in the biographical film Tolkien. From the author’s childhood through his time in the war, from his creative passions to his loves, Tolkien promises to be a phenomenal look at the man behind The Lord of the Rings. However, it’s far from the first time that Hoult has starred in a film that is either an adaptation of literature or a portrayal of a literary great. In honor of his latest, we take a look at some of his biggest and best literary roles—and some yet to come.

What’s Your Wick-sona?
It’s John Wick’s underworld. We’re just living in it.
For now.
John Wick 3: Parabellum comes out today, starring Keanu Reeves as everyone’s favorite heartbroken killer of killers (and the bespoke suit game). Quirk authors Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris took a break from writing For Your Consideration: Keanu Reeves (out Nov 5) to create this quiz for you to take during your downtime at The Continental.

Literary Roles We Want Sandra Oh to Play
Killing Eve is back and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Not only is it created by our favorite Fleabag Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the show stars one of our favorite — and most under cast — actors of all time: Sandra Oh. We would watch her read the phone book.

The end draws nigh. After a decade of action packed adventure, the Infinity Saga is coming to its conclusion this month with the release of Avengers: Endgame. It has been a long and winding road to the final battle between the original six Avengers and Thanos, the being who has been pulling the strings on the world’s greatest heroes, but after 22 movies, the time has finally come to bring a close to things. As the original Avengers prepare to pass the torch of Earth’s defenders, they are going to need an exit plan for what to do in their golden years. With that in mind, we at Quirk are offering up some post superhero life plans.

What if Action Heroes Took Part in Self-Care?
Have you ever noticed that action stars and superheroes have never stopped to practice self-care? Not one of our heroes ever has to go to the bathroom or grab a quick bite to stave off hunger. Let’s imagine for a moment if they acted like humans and took time out of fighting or killing someone to relieve and nourish themselves.

The Emmas Switch Roles!
We really really love The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston. In this wildly imaginative adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic The Prince and the Pauper, Imogen Lovelace is a teenager on a mission. All she wants is to save her favorite Starfield character, Princess Amara. She’s got the ExcelsiCon map memorized, the #SaveAmara hashtag trending, and so much merch to give away. But there’s one problem: Jessica Stone, the actress playing the role, wants nothing to do with the campaign. In fact, she’d rather her character remain dead. (Yikes!) Which got us thinking: who would we like to see switch places for our own entertainment? And the answer was easy: Emma Thompson and Emma Watson.
