This summer’s Christopher Robin features 47-year-old Ewan McGregor in the titular role. The young boy from A. A. Milne’s classic book is long gone. In his place is that same beloved character, only with decades of life behind him and an ever-waning imagination ahead of him. It’s a fun concept, but it really got us thinking about other favorite literary characters from our childhood – characters whose adult selves we would love to meet.

Next weekend, unwind with a nice cold pint and your favorite book in hand. (Extra points if you start off the last summer month with a particularly hoppy flavor.) But what if your favorite beers weren’t just an accompaniment to your favorite books, but actually a key part of them? We’ve re-imagined some of the most famous books of the past few decades with some delicious barley beverages front and center so that you can really get into the spirit of books and beer this weekend.

Has there ever been a literary character adapted to film and television as much as Sherlock Holmes? From the Basil Rathbone films of the '30s and '40s to Sherlock, Elementary, and Danny Boyle’s films starring Robert Downy Jr. and Jude Law, there have been many variations on Holmes and Watson. Heck, we even have a Sherlock Holmes Handbook for would-be sleuths. But what might the characters themselves think about these adaptations?

Much like an unstoppable animated corpse that seeks on your destruction, the Mamma Mia film series has returned with a sequel, Mamma Mia! Here I Go Again. With Lily James, the star of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, joining the cast as a young version of Meryl Streep’s character, it’s hard not to imagine how a zombie-filled, ABBA-inspired musical might go. Probably something a little like this…

We’ve all done it. A friend will mention their excitement about the Tom Hanks helmed Mr. Rogers movie that’s in preproduction and our mind immediately puts Tom Cruise in that signature cardigan. Or we read about the new Top Gun sequel and can’t picture anyone but America’s Dad playing the role. Today we’re putting our mental mixup to the test, imagining Tom Hanks in Tom Cruise roles – and vice versa.
