It’s National Library Week and today we're drawing special attention to the library’s biggest contributors: the chronically overdue. They’re both a hindrance and a help. They’re the reason you’ve been waiting six months for that bestseller to become available, but their late fees paid for new carpeting at your favorite branch. But they have a legitimate reason for not returning that book on time. Or at least that’s what they told us.

We see fairytale retellings everywhere: from Alex Flinn’s Beastly to the legit Beauty and the Beast movie with Emma Watson as Belle, fairytale retellings are possibly as popular as they’ve ever been. If retellings aren’t really your thing, what about fairytale-inspired books? With just a sprinkle of the magic that has touched the hearts of millions, fairytale-inspired stories are the perfect blend of fairytale and reality.

[The Book of Dust]

Last month, fans of Phillip Pullman’s incredible coming-of-age fantasy series His Dark Materials were overjoyed to hear that Lyra Belacqua is coming back in a whole new series: The Book of Dust, which is set for release October 19^th, 2017. The upcoming trilogy starts ten years before the events of The Golden Compass, with the later novels to be set ten years after The Amber Spyglass. This news immediately set people wondering about what we’ll find out about Lyra’s story, both before and after the events that made her famous in so many worlds. Pullman created a beautifully detailed universe in Lyra’s Oxford, and in the many worlds that she and Will discover, so we always knew that there were still so many more stories to tell…and now we get to hear them!
