Five Books That We’d Love to See As Choose Your Own Adventure Novels

We must move forward, or so the saying goes, but I can’t help but miss some things from my childhood.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t miss those pencils that were made of stackable tips (oh the horror when you lost one!) or erasable pens that are really neither pen nor pencil but I do miss a good Choose Your Own Adventure book.

Those were the highlight of my childhood and in the interest of bringing back my childhood, I’ve compiled a list of books that would make great Choose Your Own Adventure books.

10 Books About Book Lovers

Book lovers believe that books are magic, authors are wizards, and readers are…also wizards? Okay, that metaphor died a little, but you know what I mean.

Chances are, if you clicked on this post, you identify as a book lover and you want to read books about fellow book lovers. Below is a list of your next ten must-reads, from YA to New York Times bestsellers.

Five of the Greatest Grandparents in Children’s Fantasy Books

From Little Red Riding Hood to Heidi, grandparents have always been an important part of fantasy.

Sometimes acting as surrogate parents, they’re authority figures who are still kind and understanding to a young protagonist, or they're partners in crime who nevertheless dispense some much-needed wisdom (and homemade goodies). When your parents are too strict and won’t let you go to the Enchanted Forest at night, who is there to help leave the back door unlocked?

Grandparents.

When your evil teacher is threatening the family of fairies who live in the walls, who builds a fairy-sized bungalow in their attic and welcomes the new family to the neighbourhood?

Grandparents, that’s who.

And so, in honor of the relatives who will always have your back, here are five of my personal favorites from children’s fantasy literature.

If I Stay…On the Internet Long Enough to Find Awesome Fan Art

YA readers put the passion back into books. From Twihards to Potterheads, these teens create mega best sellers, know every detail of their favorite novels, can pick each discrepancy in their long-awaited book-to-film adaptations, and can bust box office records. They write fan fiction, go to fan conventions, and steal movie props that their favorite characters sat on.

But my favorite trend with the YA set has to be fan art—teens who are so inspired by the words that they read, that they redesign book covers, create faux movie posters, or sketch how they imagine a book’s most memorable scene. One YA novel, soon-to-be-film that has inspired such creative adaptations is Gayle Forman’s If I Stay, which is slated to hit theaters August 22nd.

It’s the story of seventeen-year-old Mia who survives a family car wreck only to land in a coma and face an impossible choice—does she want to continue in this world given everything she’s lost, or would rather let go? It’s a powerful, layered novel that makes you think, and it's inspired some beautiful fan art. Below is a collection of some of our favorites—many from the If I Stay movie Tumblr.
