Picking the perfect name for your furry friend can be a challenge. And when there's a challenge, what do we turn to? Good ol' literature. October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, so to celebrate, we are giving you nine dog and nine cat names inspired by books to help you figure out what to name that wonderful new pet you’re hopefully bringing home from the shelter!

These aren't your average puppies and kittens, no, here are six of the best, most magical animal friends a kid could ask for. And I hope you all appreciate the supreme effort I’m making not to populate this list entirely with unicorns.

This May, Andrew Knapp and his adorable dog Momo are climbing into their 1977 VW van and hitting the road on a cross-country book tour to promote their latest book, Find Momo Coast to Coast (have you entered the pre-order campaign yet?).
