With the upcoming release of Terminator: Dark Fate, we're thinking about how it's the first film in the franchise to give Sarah Connor her time to shine. And she isn’t alone; this film has several female characters that can kick some serious butt! If you enjoy Terminator: Dark Fate, you should check out these books, films and television shows where women steal the show.

Firefly (TV show) / Serenity (film sequel)

Move over, Captain Reynolds. The ladies on your space crew are the ones really in charge. These women fix the ship, win fights, and save their male crewmates all the time (sorry Jayne)! The best part is that the women on board the Serenity are strong and brave in a world that is full of danger, yet they always manage to overcome the odds, win the day and stay shiny!

The Expanse (TV show and books)

The Expanse is a great science fiction book series and TV show with fantastic women in lead roles. In this political space opera, it’s characters like Naomi Nagata (engineer), Chrisjen Avasarala (Ambassador) and Bobbie Draper (soldier) that are pivotal to the series/show. These women aren’t damsels in distress, but hardened adventures in a kill or be killed world. You can’t help but root for theses women in every book or episode.

Doctor Who (TV show and books)

For a series that has been around for decades, Doctor Who was usually associated with its male leads. However, that is no longer the case. The Doctor is now played by a woman, Jodie Whittaker, who does a marvelous job bringing the Thirteenth Doctor to life! Before the Doctor transformed into a woman, many companions in the series were mostly played by women and often times outshined the good Doctor. Rose, Donna, Martha, Amy…the list goes on and on. 

The Handmaid’s Tale (TV show and book)

It goes without out saying that Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel about the oppression of women features remarkable women. In the television series, this is even further highlighted by a stunning cast of women who bring Atwood’s brutal tale to life. It’s hard to look away from the show because the women in it slay! Literally and metaphorically speaking.
