Literary Looks: Fall Boots for Fictional Characters
The temperatures are starting to drop and the leaves have begun to change, which means that it’s time to retire beach paperbacks and flip flops in favor of more autumnal choices. Warm and cozy hats, scarves, and sweaters are perfect for enjoying the crisp fall weather before winter hits, and bookworms eschew nature in favor of being curled up with a warm drink and good book.
While you are switching out your wardrobe for something a little more appropriate to apple picking and trick-or-treating, why not let one of your favorite fictional heroines inspire you? Whatever your style, there is sure to be a pair of boots that will let you channel your favorite character as well as keeping your toes warm…
Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby
Stunning, stylish and not a little superficial, Gatsby’s great love Daisy is associated with lightness, purity and pale colors (especially white), so her choice in boots would be something delicate, and never the traditional black or brown shades. Daisy might choose some gorgeous pale beige lace up ankle boots. They aren’t the most practical choice for a stroll in the woods to enjoy the changing leaves, but perfect for an autumn party.

Elphaba from Wicked
Elphaba may not seem to be the most interested in fashion at first glance, but just because she steers clear of the frilly dresses that her friend Galinda wears, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know her own style. Black doesn’t have to be boring with these witchy button-up boots that would suit the “wicked witch” down to the ground.

Little Red Riding Hood
This classic fairy tale character is no shrinking violet, and would love a pair of boots to set off her signature red cape. Of course, she’s a big fan of wandering the woods, so practicality would be of paramount concern. Red would love these burgundy knee-high boots.

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)
Katniss may have worn a few different styles since she first volunteered as tribute, but for many fans she’ll always be associated with her hunting gear of brown and green. These classic brown boots would suit her perfectly, and go just as well with jeans and a sweater in the city as they would for hunting trip with Gale.

Lisbeth Salander from The Millenium series
When it comes to distinctive style, Lisbeth Salander has hers down pat. She’s never far from her chunky black biker boots, which are just perfect for this season. However, if you want something that captures her look while still giving you a little extra height, these hidden wedge biker-inspired boots are perfect.

Alice from Alice in Wonderland
There’s little doubt that Alice’s fall footwear would be whimsical, unique, and in her signature baby blue. Given her predilection for various outfits to suit her varying size, she’d probably go through a few pairs in her adventures! Like these stunning ankle boots by Gusieppie Zanotti, with a twist on the classic lace up and a slim heel, or these chunkier offerings by Michael Antonio.

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice
If you are feeling in the mood for something classic, romantic, but not too girly (just like Lizzie!) check out these lace up ankle boots. They definitely feel a little bit Austen, but with a high enough heel that they can go from country to city (or day to night).

Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter
Hester is something of a contradiction: a strong puritan woman, and an adulterous vamp at the same time. She’s not the type to wear boots the same shade as her letter “A”, but you just know that she wouldn’t keep them completely sensible, either. These thigh-high grey suede boots are a shade to suit her Christian values, but a style to satisfy her more outgoing side, too.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter series
Hermione would just love these maroon ankle boots. The chunky wooden heel is high enough to appeal to her feminine side, without being (heaven forbid) impractical for this eminently sensible girl. She may not be a flamboyant dresser for the most part, but I’m sure she would love the deep red of these – a little nod to her Hogwarts house!
