Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu

If you’re looking for a genre-bending novel that you can read in one sitting, Interior Chinatown is the book for you! Willis Wu lives in a single room occupancy building, complete with a shared bathroom where residents stand in line for hours, and a police procedural perpetually in production at the restaurant downstairs. Willis, along with most all of his neighbors, plays a bit role in this show: Generic Asian Man. But his aspirations are so much higher – Kung Fu Guy, the most revered of all Asian film roles. So when he goes off script one day, improvising lines that aren’t there, it’s okay, right? As long as it’s all in pursuit of that coveted role?
