If We Could Re-Cast “Interview with the Vampire” Today
Recently, Anne Rice, the First Lady of Hot Vampire Drama, has announced that she is working on yet another novel about her favorite vampire, Lestat de Lioncourt. Lestat is the vampire that simply refuses to die, similar to Hollywood's unending penchant for reboots. The movie adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel Interview with the Vampire, where we first met Lestat, debuted in 1994. So we decided to get ahead of the Hollywood game by putting our dream cast out into the world. Here's who we would cast for a remake of Interview with the Vampire:
Lestat de Lioncourt played by Tom Hiddleston
Lestat de Lioncourt is both a villain and a hero and Tom Hiddleston has shown us over and over again that he is more than capable of playing such a character and make you root for him. Moreover, in Jim Jarmusch’s movie Only Lovers Left Alive Hiddleston played a vampire who was a rock star, just like Lestat in The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned.
Louis de Pointe du Lac played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Louis de Pointe du Lac is the reluctant vampire, created by Lestat and initially appalled by taking human life as a means of survival. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has played everything from Vronsky in Anna Karenina to Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, showing off his range as a romantic leading man capable of violence.
Claudia played by Isabelle Nélisse
The scariest character in the horror movie Mama was Isabelle Nélisse’s Lilly, the child who latched on to a ghost as her mother. Isabelle has since then starred in the FX vampire TV series, The Strain. So who better to play the child vampire Claudia, who enjoys killing innocents perhaps a little too much.
Madeleine played by Emma Stone
Madeleine is a young, red-haired woman with pale skin who is created by Louis as Claudia’s companion. Madeleine does not have a long life span in Interview with the Vampire but the relationship that develops between her and Claudia has enough disturbing features for us never to forget about her. A perfect part for Emma Stone.
Armand played by Idris Elba
Of Russian origin, Armand is the leader of a vampire coven in Paris. By the time that Louis, Claudia, and Madeleine run into him, Armand is nearly four hundred years old. If you ask us at Quirk Books, no one combines the suave and the sexy with gravitas the way Idris Elba does, which makes him perfect as Armand.
