Dream Literary Roles for Saoirse Ronan

Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston
We’re a little biased, sure, but we would absolutely love to see Saoirse tackle the role of Rosie in Bookish and the Beast – which you’ll all get to read in no time! We’re big fans of Ashley Poston’s modern take on familiar fairy tales, and this one just might be our favorite! We love imagining Saoirse as Rosie – working among the books, playing out this small town story filled with delightful nerdery and smart heroines.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
We don’t have any actual evidence to back up the why, but whenever we picture Saoirse Ronan, we imagine sweeping moors and long dresses. (Little Women wasn’t that kind of period piece. Why do we keep imagining that it is?) In any event, we’d love to see Saoirse embody one of the most incredible Brontë novels of all time – and we say this with the utmost respect for the other Brontë sisters. And we know her version of Jane will carry modern feminist pillars, ones that don’t include locking women in attics. And we’re ready for a new ending, one that only Saoirse can provide.

Persuasion by Jane Austen
We love the idea of Saoirse playing a quick-witted Jane Austen heroine, one that she can fully make her own. (Because, let’s face it, we’ll get into a fist fight defending our favorite adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.) Seeing Saoirse playing Anne in Persuasion would be a dream come true because (1) have we mentioned how much we love Jane Austen? and (2) duh, long walks on the moors. Someone get on this adaptation, quick!

Garrison Girl by Rachel Aaron
When we look back on Saoirse Ronan’s filmography, something that’s missing – something that we’re craving – is an adventure story. Which is why we’re dying to see her in an adaptation of Garrison Girl by Rachel Aaron. And while our preference is for this adaptation to be live action, we know she’d be a total badass in an animated version too. As long as we get to see Saoirse play Rosalie Dumarque, we’re happy.

Grace and the Fever by Zan Romanoff
Maybe it’s our obsession with Lady Bird. Or maybe it’s the fact that Saoirse is turning 25 years young today. But we’re itching to see Saoirse Ronan in a young adult story again – and soon. One of our favorite YA novels from the last couple of years is Grace and the Fever, a beautiful look at the cost of fame. It’s Hanson meets One Direction meets Tumblr and it’s incredible. We’d love to see Saoirse in the titular role.
