The weather outside is frightful and, frankly, we’re tired of watching Elf on a loop. There are only so many times we can see Will Ferrell put maple syrup on his spaghetti. (Ew.) So, we’re here to make a case for decidedly-not-Christmas movies that still give us that warm fuzzy feeling. Grab the nearest blanket and hunker down because you’re in for a cinematic treat.

Dumplin’ premiered on Netflix this week (and select theaters – squee!) and we are very very excited. Mostly because of Bo Larson. Oh, you don’t know about Bo Larson? We know Peter Kavinsky (and his real-life counterpart Noah Centineo) stole everyone’s heart this summer, but just you wait!

The Playstation Classic was released this month, a reminder of what it was like to pick up a controller for the first time and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of gaming. Yes, it may be a way to capitalize on nostalgia for a generation who have disposable income now (and don’t have to beg mom for their shiny new game console), but it’s also a way to remember a time before Instagram and Snapchat, a time when music was bought on a disc in a shiny case, and when life was so much simpler. Or at least, that’s how it looks from the perspective of 2018!

In homage to the re-issue of that first PlayStation, we’ve pulled together some of the other things that we’d love to see resurrected from 1994.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is back this week and to say we’re excited would be a serious understatement. We spent the better part of the first season pouring over the biographies of Lenny Bruce (who inspires Midge Maisel) and Joan Rivers (who inspires Rachel Brosnahan), this season we’re taking a more contemporary approach. These are our absolute favorite humor books by women – just in time for you to start craving season three.

Car-sharing isn’t just about the cheapest and easiest way to get somewhere (without using public transit, of course). It’s also about the conversation. Car-sharing apps and services are all about the personal touch, and chatting to a driver is a great way to get to know the local area, or just to make a journey a little more enjoyable. After all, you get to meet the kind of people that you might never otherwise bump into. It’s all about community. While that’s the ideal, it’s not always the reality! Conversations with Lyft drivers can be everything from illuminating to supremely awkward…and we bet that fictional characters might have just as much trouble as people in the real world when it comes to this particular kind of small talk.
