It’s Chris Pratt’s birthday on June 21 and all we want to do is sit around and binge Parks and Rec all day. But that would be ignoring his greater canon. (Oh wow just think about Andy Dwyer’s reaction to the phrase “greater canon.” Priceless.) So instead of playing Mouse Rat’s greatest hits until our brains explode, we’re sharing some Chris Pratt-specific book recommendations. Or should we say, book recommendations for our favorite Chris Pratt characters.

Incredibles 2 is about to hit the big screen, bringing one of our favorite super-families back to delight a new generation. The original Incredibles introduced fans to this suburban family with a secret — they are all natural superheroes! The super-strong Mr. Incredible and his super-flexible wife Elastigirl team up with their two children, speedster Dash and invisible girl Violet, to take down a supervillain (and leave the incredibly powerful superbaby at home with a sitter). It’s a sweet, funny movie, and one that plays with the idea of family dynamics affecting a superhero mission.

Option 1: Designate one hand for page turning and one hand for donut holding—never switch.

Option 2: Go the prim and proper way and eat your donut with a fork and knife, a method even a Queen would approve of—or Meghan Markle. Now on to the important stuff: which donut to eat with what book?

I’ve recently become a father, and as a student of pop culture I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about how dads are portrayed in fictional settings. And in that there are some dads that I secretly want to be, and in a way look up to for their parenting skills.

The new season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is here and we are so excited to see what Tina Fey and the rest of the writing team have in store for us. In between seasons, we spend a lot of time thinking about what Kimmy’s reading and recommending. This time around, we’re building a bunker friendly reading list for our quirky heroine – filled with dragons, apocalypse fiction, missing people, and survival manuals. Because reading the same Baby-Sitters Club Book over and over again can get old fast.
