Change is in the air, and it's not just the seasons. On Saturday, September 27, trolley out to West Philly and hear 36 Philadelphia poets performing their work in the spirit of peace activism. The 2nd Annual "Poets for Change" meets at the Green Line Café on 43rd and Baltimore, 2 p.m.
On Sunday, September 28, Philalia (the whimsically-named small press fair) throws its closing celebration. Party with poets and printmakers at the gorgeous Philadelphia Art Alliance! Sunday, 8:00 p.m.
Play hooky on Monday, September 29 and wander down to South Broad. Authors Shane Book (Prairie Schooner Book Prize) , Raina J. Léon (Cave Canem and CantoMundo fellow), and Rich Villar (published in Amistad and Noire) perform at the Brandywine Workshop, 4:00 p.m.
New York Times columnist Charles Blow comes to the Free Library on Tuesday, September 30. He's talking about his new memoir, Fire Shut Up in My Bones, with columnist Solomon Jones. Central Library, 7:30 p.m.
And on Friday, beloved hometown heroes The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam is back, in style. This warm, raucous poetry slam makes newcomers welcome and raises the bar for poetry performance in the city. Feature Rachel McKibbens is a critically acclaimed page and performance poet visiting from NYC for one night only. Get in there!
