Book Recs for Alien: Covenant
[Movie still from Alien, 20th Century Fox]
The much anticipated Alien: Covenant film hits theaters this weekend. To prepare, you could read one of the many books set in the Alien universe (and you totally should!) . . . or you could check out one of our non-chest bursting sci-fi recommendations. At any rate, keep an eye out for face huggers.
Old Man's War by John Scalzi
In this sci-fi epic, Earth must send its oldest citizens to protect its space colonies. That means fighting some very nasty aliens. As the bloody war wages on, protagonist John Perry must find a way to survive. If you like stories with humans kicking some alien butt, then this book is for you.
Dune by Frank Herbert
This sci-fi classic has all types of crazy aliens! Giant space worms, mind-reading witches, and slug-like navigators. If you want more political intrigue and espionage in your space operas, then the Dune series will not steer you wrong.
[Movie still from The Thing, Universal Pictures]
Who Goes There? by John Wood Campbell Jr.
This novella pits man vs alien in the harsh Artic climate. Scientists in an isolated facility discover an alien has infiltrated their base. Paranoia and violence soon ensues with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance. Fans of space horror will also have to watch the film adaption, simply called The Thing.
Dreamcatcher by Stephen King
There may not be face huggers in this book, but there are butt weasels. When aliens invade the planet, it’s up to a ragtag group of friends to save the day. One of the few books by King that features extraterrestrials, Dreamcatcher will be sure to have you on the edge of your seat, or the very least a toilet.
