Are you a blogger or book influencer interested in reviewing one of our books? Well then, you’ve come to the right place.

Each year Quirk publishes twenty-five books on a variety of subjects, and every title is a labor of love. Some of our most popular titles are the best-selling Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children YA series by Ransom Riggs, the best-selling horror novel The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix, The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by Fred Rogers and Luke Flowers.

We love working with online influencers, bloggers, and bookstagrammers, whether you’re interested in fiction, parenting, lifestyle, cooking, adult or children’s books, or something completely different, and we’re always looking to build relationships with new bloggers. As a small publishing company, we have just a limited number of review copies that we’re able to send. Continue reading to find out more about our policies and preferences.

What does Quirk look for in a blog?

Book Bloggers: While we consider each request on a case-by-case basis, we generally look closest at blogs that have approximately 500+ followers and are actively growing. However, we understand not everyone is going to have thousands of followers or page views, which is why we also consider other elements of your blog, including previous posts and titles reviewed (to see if you clearly exhibit an interest in the genre or similar titles), social media presence (see more below), and potential for partnership and growth. We’re certainly interested in working with bloggers who have established a solid readership and voice over time, but we continue to remain committed to establishing new relationships with burgeoning bloggers.

Social Media Influencers: It’s ok if you don’t have a book blog. We also work very closely with bookstagrammers and influencers across all social media platforms. As with book bloggers, we examine each request on a case-by-case basis, generally looking closest at social accounts with approximately 500+ followers and an active online presence (engagement with other book accounts, bookstagrammers, etc.). We also look at the genres you lean toward most. When requesting a title, please send us links to all your relevant social accounts for consideration, making sure they are open to the public. We want to know what you’re posting about, if people are interacting with you, the types of books/content you’ve covered before, and of course, reviews or posts about books we’ve published. If you’re newer to the community, tell us your vision for your accounts—even if we can’t offer you a review copy at that time, we find building relationships key in the work we do. While we have solid built-in readerships in the bookstagram community, we continue to welcome and encourage new voices and creatives to reach out or request our titles. Please note: we do not work with anyone who buys followers.

FAQs

What’s an ARC? An ARC, otherwise known as an Advance Reading Copy (sometimes called “galley”) is an early, unfinished version of a book produced specifically to allow reviewers of all kinds to read and review the title before it is published. Because the text is not final, you should always check any quotes and facts against a finished copy of the book.

How many ARCs or review copies are available per book? Quirk prints a limited number of ARCs for advance reading, which we reserve for publicity, marketing, and online influencers. The number of ARCs printed depends entirely on the title and its needs—in fact, sometimes we print none at all. In some cases, we upload digital ARCs to Netgalley and Edelweiss, which are both available to the public for requesting titles. Please note, we are unable to send physical ARCs outside of the US, but international reviewers may request digital copies on Netgalley.

What are Netgalley and Edelweiss? These are websites where book reviewers and other professional readers can download and read books before they are published, in e-galley or digital galley form. If we cannot send an ARC ahead of publication, you may try requesting digital copies on Netgalley and Edelweiss instead. We approve on a case-by-case basis, so as you would for an ARC, be sure to include as much information about your review history in your request as you can. For further guidance, please check out Netgalley’s tips for beginners before sending your request.

When should I request a review copy? ARCs are typically available six months before a book goes on sale, and finished review copies are usually available around two months before the book’s publication. We may not be able to send you one right away, but the earlier you request one (and the more interest you have in the book), the more likely you are to be added to our mailing list.

If the book has been published already, can I still request a copy for review? You can request a book at any time, but please note we rarely send finished copies after a title has been published, and always on a case-by-case basis. In general, we do not send out review copies once the book has been on sale for six months.

When should I post my review and what should I include? We like to see reviews go up within a month of the book’s publication date (before or after), but as close to pub date as possible. However, we love seeing your excitement when you first have the book in your hands, so always feel free to share an “unboxing” post with us or on social media.

We do not have rules about what to include in your posts, but please get in touch if you want to include a cover image, author photo, author bio, etc.

And if you’re sharing your review on social media, make sure you tag @QuirkBooks!

What can I expect from Quirk? If you tag Quirk, we’ll try our best to share your reviews on Twitter and repost/share to IG stories on Instagram. Please feel free to send us an email with links to your reviews to ensure we don’t miss your posts.

One final important note: We do not send books to blogs that sell free review copies and ARCs.

You are more than welcome to exchange review copies in swaps, gift them to your friends to read, or donate them to your local charity, school, or library, but they’re not intended for resale.

I’m interested in reviewing your books! How do I get in touch?

We’d love to hear from you! Email us at [email protected] to introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your site. Be sure to include the following:

  • links to your blog and related social media accounts
  • any stats you have about followers or visitors to your site
  • what types of books you are interested in
  • if you have ever read or reviewed a Quirk book before
  • your mailing address and/or what country you are based in

The more information you can include, the better! We will do our best to get back to you quickly, but if a week passes and you still haven’t heard anything, please send a follow-up email.
