There’s a Saint For That: Heavenly Allies for Everyday Life

The pope rolls into our homebase of Philadelphia this weekend. And as he leaves the Vatican to head to the City of Brotherly Love, we wouldn’t be surprised if he sends a prayer or two to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers. But what about other kinds of 21st-century problems? Whether you’re throwing a party, buying a house, losing at poker or wishing for more followers on Instagram, there’s a Saint for that.

Gearing up for a visit from the pope? Get your home ready for the papal visitation with a tiny origami version of the pope’s tall, pointed hat: the mitre. The mitre (also spelled miter) is a formal headdress for high offices of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as some protestant sects. Miss Peregrine’s Book Club: Perfect Reads for the Peculiars

We’ve been so excited to read Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs that we may have been trying to time travel to September 22, 2015 in order to create a time loop that would repeat the book release day over and over again. Alas, we were unable to figure out the whole time loop thing and were forced instead to not-so-patiently wait with everyone else. BUT in honor of the book release, we did get our hands on some of the peculiar children’s book cards.

“Book cards?” you ask. Well, Miss Peregrine and the peculiar children have a library. And while its location is secret, we did find out their librarian uses time travel to keep their library stocked with vintage and contemporary books. But newly-released books is as far as she’ll go into the modern world. She still uses the card catalog system! That’s how we found out which books are currently checked out from the Peculiar Library.

9 Horror-ific Cakes for Stephen King’s Birthday!

Today is Stephen King’s birthday and since scaring the bejesus out of him, like so many of his books have done to us, would probably certainly land us in jail we’ve decided the best way to celebrate the King (literally and figuratively) of horror is with cake. Stephen King inspired cake that is because we like to think he’d approve of us eating desserts inspired by his creations—gore frosted and all—to celebrate his birth.
