Best Literary Week in NYC: July 13th – July 19th
Summer’s heating up, but so are the awesome literary events in New York City. This week offers the opportunity to celebrate a ton of debut novelists, with events in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as get tips on how to cope with the business side of a literary life. Debut novelists Edan Lepucki (California) and Mira Jacob (The Sleepwalker's Guide to Dancing) will be discussing their books at Greenlight Bookstore this Tuesday. Both authors will be celebrating the paperback editions of their highly acclaimed first novels. The conversation will focus on the themes of family and overcoming the past, and will also touch on motherhood and the experience of launching a reading series.

This Wednesday Julia Fierro (Cutting Teeth) hosts novelists Dennis Mahoney (Bell Weather), Sophie McManus (The Unfortunates), Patty Park (Re Jane) and Erika Swyler (The Book Of Speculation) for an afternoon of spirited literary conversation at Bryant Park. Grab some food and head over to the park to make your lunch hour so much better.

While you’re in the neighborhood, visit the lions Patience and Fortitude at NYPL to check out the exhibit, Public Eye: 175 Years of Sharing Photography. There will be a free, public tour of the installation at 3:30pm. Later on Wednesday, debut novelist Angela Flournoy will discuss her novel The Turner House with Tayari Jones (Silver Sparrow) as part of the Harlem Book Festival. The New York Times called The Turner House, “an engrossing and remarkably mature first novel.”
