Literary Events in Philadelphia This Week: July 13th – July 20th

 
Now that the holidays are over and there’s no better way to pass the time than by reading, writing and enjoying the bookworm lifestyle, get ready for another week of awesome Philadelphia literary events, including, this week, readings, readings, and readings!
 
On Tuesday, July 15th, The Erotic Literary Salon returns featuring Heidi Champa, reading from her new novel The Hot Corner. A discussion about the marriage and lifestyle of an erotica author will follow.
 
 
 
On Friday the 18th at Big Blue Marble, novelist, playwright and journalist David Kalish will give a reading from his new novel The Opposite of Everything, recognized as top literary novel at the Somerset Fiction Awards.

Literary Events in Philadelphia This Week: June 29th – July 5th

Philly is still reading and putting together exciting happenings for readers like you. Whatever plans you might have for celebrating the birth of our nation, don’t let them interfere with any of these upcoming events:
 
The Philly Feminist Zine Fest will still be going strong on Sunday, June 29th. Get out to Philly Soapbox, Wooden Shoe or Yell Gallery for some exciting workshops and panels.
 
Also on the 29th, the Rosenbach Museum and Library is offering a hands-on tour of some artifacts that remain from the writing of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
 
On Monday, June 30th at the Free Library of Philadelphia, romance novelists Megan Hart, Sara Humphreys and Geri Krotow will be reading from new books and discussing the craft of romance.
 
Thursday, July 3rd is the first Thursday of July, which means Jus’ Words is hosting another biweekly open poetry slam, emceed by Shyster and E the Poet-Emcee.
 
Finally, at Tattooed Mom on Saturday, July 5th, True Skateboarding Magazine is premiering its fourth video, Sol, featuring Ryan Chaney, Stephen Kellogg, Tyrone Olson, Jacob Sandin, and Barak Ban-Zino.

Literary Events in Philly This Week: June 22nd – 28th

 
Philly’s starting to get hot, but not too hot for its dedicated literary scenemakers. Now that the sun is out and your apartment’s all but uninhabitable, go check out some exciting upcoming readings and workshops:
 
On Monday, June 23rd, veteran sports columnist George Vecsey will read from Eight World Cups: My Journey Through the Beauty and Dark Side of Soccer, a new book collecting his insider accounts of the last eight World Cups.
 
On Tuesday, June 24th, Big Blue Marble is hosting its monthly Women of the World Book Club. This month, the club will discuss NoViolet Bulawayo’s acclaimed We Need New Names.
 
 
Also on the 28th, Lynn Hoffman will be giving a free reading at Musehouse from his new memoir, Radiation Days. Launch Party to follow!
 
Saturday’s going to be a big day. The 28th is the first day of the Philly Feminist Zine Fest at Christ Church’s Community House. Metropolarity invites you to join them.

City of Bookishly Love: Philly Literary Events, May 25th – 31st

Every week there are workshops, readings, parties and other exciting literary events taking place all over Philly. For those of you planning to spend the next week holed up in a dark room reading, here are some opportunities to get out of the house and experience Philly’s diverse and lively book culture:  

On Sunday the 25th, Angie Bowie will be reading from her book Pop.Sex at Tattooed Mom. Read more about the book and the event here. Release party to follow!

On Tuesday the 27th, Wooden Shoe is hosting You Can’t Kill A Poet, a reading bringing queer Philly poets together to share and celebrate their work.

Poets Michelle Castleberry and Hila Ratzabi will be reading together at Big Blue Marble on Thursday the 29th. Check out Big Blue Marble’s events page to read about all of the readings they’re hosting this coming week.

At the Kelly Writers’ House on Friday the 30th, Lynn Levin’s Creative Writing Class and Greg Djanikian’s Poetry Writing class will both be giving readings. Check the KWH calendar for both of these readings in the Arts Café.

Also on Friday the 30th, there will be a Hands-on tour of some mainstays of the works of Charles Dickens at the Rosenbach Museum and Library.
