Orange is the New Black Readalong Part 1

We love Orange is the New Black, and the ladies of Litchfield love reading just as much as we do. Rather than make you squint and pause watching to see all the books they're reading, we rounded them all up in a two-part series for you.

In Episode One of the newest season of Orange is the New Black, Yoga Jones sings Nick Hornby’s praises, sharing with Chapman how much she loved High Fidelity. To celebrate the return of our favorite Netflix drama, we at Quirk books are reading along with the Litchfield inmates. Here’s a dive into the books we spotted in the first four episodes.

Jason Bourne vs. Other Literary Figures

Robert Ludlum’s super spy Jason Bourne has had an interesting career. Though Ludlum only wrote three Bourne novels before his death, his successor Eric Van Lustbader has written nine additional stories. The novels were so popular that in 2002 a film version of the first book was made staring Matt Damon. Though the first film did not bring in huge numbers at the box office, it eventually found success on home video. This launched an incredibly lucrative film franchise with two more films starring Bourne. After a brief hiatus for The Bourne Legacy in which Jeremy Renner played a new character, Matt Damon has decided to return for the fifth installment of the film series. We at Quirk are such huge Bourne fans, we thought it might be fun to see how the super spy would fare against some other well-known literary spies.

Book Recommendations for Ghostbusters Characters

If there’s something strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? Since it’s 2016, we’re gonna call Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Kristen Wiig. As we count down to the release of the movie we’ve been looking forward to for the last year, we thought we’d round up some book recommendations for the newest faces of the Ghostbusters franchise.

#GhostAClassic

While we can find ourselves just as exhausted as everyone else with the overload of remakes we could not be more excited for the new Ghostbusters reboot.

Can opening night be similar to a Rocky Horror screening and everyone go in their Ghostbuster jumpsuit and we throw green slime? Actually, that sounds like a fantastic idea! So while we stock up on slime (this is still sold in vending machine capsules for 25¢, yes?) we thought a hashtag game of #GhostAClassic would be fun.

Think we better call Ghostbusters to come investigate these classics! Join us on Twitter with #GhostAClassic.

Comic Crossover Crazy

Over the last few years DC comics has been putting out its superhero comics under the banner of The New 52. This new take on the DC Universe characters change a considerable amount of continuity. Recently, DC has decided to take its comics in a new direction with a story line titled Rebirth. While this story has yet to be fully solidified in the comics, one thing has become clear, it contains one of the most interesting crossovers ever to be brought into comics. In 1986 Vertigo Comics released Alan Moore’s seminal comic Watchmen which was an indictment of modern superhero comics. Now, thirty years later, characters from Watchmen are being introduced into the continuity of the DC Universe. In celebration of this new direction, here is a list of some of the greatest comic crossovers ever.

Remember Me

What is a person if not a conglomeration of their experiences and memories? Our life experiences completely determine our future actions and behaviors. For people who tend to be forgetful, this could be a huge problem, as they are less likely to learn and grow from the past. Since today is I forget day, we at Quirk wanted to take a look at some of the most messed up memories in all of comics. Don’t think that this list was easy to compile, most of these guys and gals we had forgotten about.
