Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is out now and we couldn’t be more excited. Seeing Sabrina Spellman back in the spotlight is giving us serious late 90s vibes. (Remember when The WB was a thing?) And while Kiernan Shipka is exactly who we would cast in a remake of this cult classic, a small part of us is going to miss Melissa Joan Hart — specifically her face on the cover of every single Sabrina the Teenage Witch book.

Hang on, you didn’t know there were books? The '90s was filled with mass produced paperback series aimed at teenage readers. (You’ve read our book Paperback Crush, right?) Today, we’re digging back into this wildly entertaining series, ranking our favorites and giving some serious side eye to some of the more ridiculous plot points.

Sidekicks Who Are (Infinitely) Better Than The Main Character

We love a good underdog story, so it’ll come as no surprise that we’re coming out with a companion to Jon Morris’ The League of Regrettable Superheroes and The Legion of Regrettable Supervillains – this time with a big emphasis on the often forgotten sidekick! Which got us thinking about some of our favorite sidekicks in pop culture – sidekicks who are (dare we say it?) way better than their leads.

It’s Carrie Fisher’s birthday on October 21 and we still can’t believe she’s gone. She was everything we could ever want in a modern-day hero – bold and brash and unapologetically honest. To honor our dearly departed space mom on her special day, we’re sharing our favorite pieces of Carrie Fisher advice.

Activities to Do with Your Girl Squad

All month long, we’re celebrating the latest addition to the Sam Maggs canon: Girl Squads: 20 Female Friendships That Changed History. It’s an incredible exploration of women throughout history – and we’re not just saying that because we published it. Did you know about BFF pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read, who could plunder with the best of them? How about First Nations twin sisters Sharon and Shirley Firth, who went on to become Olympic skiers? Or how about the Edinburgh Seven, friends who fought to become the first women to be admitted to medical school in the United Kingdom? We told you this book was incredible.

Today, we’re focusing on something a little more now: your own girl squad. Ever find yourself turning to the usual (tired) tropes – brunch or happy hour? Quirk Books to the rescue! We’re here to shake up your calendar and help you make some wonderful memories. Girl squads, unite!

Sci-Fi Perfection

[source: Moving Image]

Here at Quirk, we love science fiction. There is nothing as entertaining as a good piece of speculative fiction with great story lines and characters. While there are some writers who are well established science fiction masters like Harlan Ellison, Philip K. Dick and Octavia Butler, there are also some creators who have the skills to make some of the best science fiction to ever hit the shelves but simply haven’t gone down that path yet. With that in mind, it seemed appropriate to speculate on what the future of science fiction writing may look like.
