Bookish Events in New York City: March 9th – 13th
It’s finally beginning to look like spring is on its way to New York City. This week offers a ton of great opportunities to make use of the extra hour of daylight.
Cheer on debut authors like Eddie Joyce and Sarah Blake in Staten Island and Brooklyn, and then head to Manhattan to hear from NBCC finalists at The New School. Listen to brilliant women read letters at Joe’s Pub, and maybe tell your own story at The Moth.
Best of all, you’ll be able to run around the city without needing multiple pairs of mittens.

Top 10 Tuesday: All-Time Favorite Books From the Past 3 Years
Quirk Books is linking up with The Broke and the Bookish for Top 10 Tuesday! This week we’re talking about books from the past three years that were so fantastic and over-the-top amazing that they somehow made their way onto our “all-time favorite books” lists.
I am extremely selective when it comes to choosing which books are allowed on my “favorites” shelf. There sits great books that I have re-read multiple times and that only get better with age: Wicked by Gregory Maguire; Looking for Alaska by John Green; The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern; The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon; Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson; Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan; The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler; The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter; etc. But there are a few books, published at some point in the past three years, that absolutely deserve a place on this shelf:

Bookish Events in New York City: March 2nd – 6th
It’s another snowy, yet busy, week in New York City.
This week offers the opportunity to get fancy at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with food, wine, and the brilliant words of Tiphanie Yanique. Are you a music lover? Head over to WORD Brooklyn and soak up the wisdom from an amazing panel of music journalists. There’s also the opportunity to see Lorrie Moore, Francesca Marciano, and Elizabeth McCracken at the awards ceremony for the Story Prize at The New School.
Whatever you do, stay toasty, and know that spring is on its way.

Fabulous Fan Films Inspired by Comic Books
There are so many of us who are fans. Whether you are a fan of a sports team, director, author or radio personality, you want to see the very best of what they have to offer. This goes for comic book fans as well. In recent years, comic book movies have owned the box office. There has never been a greater time to be a comics fan.
However, there is nothing worse than going out to see the film adaptation of one of your favorite comics only to find that it is a huge disappointment, or watching the property linger in development hell.
What with the epically dark Power Rangers fan film circulating around the Internet lately (which sadly just got pulled), I thought I'd round up some of the great comic book fan films. Because there are a lot of them. While they may not have the production value of a major studio, fan films can truly the best interpretation of their characters ever.

Top 10 Tuesday: 10 Favorite Fictional Heroines
Quirk Books is linking up with The Broke and the Bookish for Top 10 Tuesday! This week we’re sharing our favorite fictional heroines… the kick-butt female types, not the drug. The internet told me that a heroine is “the principal female character in a story, play, film, etc.” That wasn’t good enough for me, so I searched online a little deeper (I just clicked the next link, but no one really needs to know that) and found a much better definition: “a woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities.” Yes. That sounds good.
