Happy Thanksgiving, Quirk readers! In the spirit of giving thanks, we wanted to share some of the literary friendships we’re feeling thankful for at this time of year.

Alright, writers. We’re in the thick of it. We’re approaching that halfway point and things might be starting to feel overwhelming. Maybe you’re not at the word count you should be by now, or maybe you are and you’re feeling the flames burn out. Whatever your needs, it’s likely about time for a pep talk.

We searched out past NaNoWriMo Pep Talks and spoke with a couple authors to get their best advice for NaNoWriMo participants. Need a little inspiration and/or advice to keep going? We’ve got you.

Let’s be honest. Sometimes the main character in a book (or movie) just doesn’t measure up next to their sidekick(s). Sidekicks are the unsung heroes of lots of stories; they’re the comedic relief, the voice of reason, the support without which main characters likely couldn’t do what they have to do to bring a story to its conclusion. So today, let’s acknowledge some of our favourite literary (and movie) sidekicks.

There are some really, really cool libraries in this world. There are some that are environmentally proactive, some that house more books than one could read in a lifetime, and some that are just architecturally bizarre.

We see fairytale retellings everywhere: from Alex Flinn’s Beastly to the legit Beauty and the Beast movie with Emma Watson as Belle, fairytale retellings are possibly as popular as they’ve ever been. If retellings aren’t really your thing, what about fairytale-inspired books?
