Ashley Poston’s Favorite Fanart
I have a confession to make:
I really like fanart.
I like fanart so much my first stop at conventions is Artist Alley. I will easily drop a hundred dollars on the perfect Victuuri postcard or a wood-block print of Chihiro and Haku. I’m always on the lookout for new fanarts to put up in my office. It helps keep my writing space fresh and colorful and I get to give money to artists I adore. It’s really a win-win.
So without further ado, here are some of my recent favorite pieces of non-Geekerella fanart for your enjoyment. I hope you find a new artist to love and support, and definitely @ me on Twitter with your favs as well!
1. Margaret Owen (terriblenerd.tumblr.com)
So, fun story – I met this artist only a few months ago and I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IT WAS HER until we broke the Dragon Age II fandom and she was like “Oh yeah, this is me.” If I would’ve known, I would’ve knelt at the alter of her Lup (from The Adventure Zone) fanart and her glorious sh*tposts. They’re hilarious. Highly recommend.
2. Cara McGee (caramcgee.com)
Look, some people will say I have one too many Dragon Age prints by Cara McGee, but I will tell you that I don’t have nearly enough. If I could wallpaper a wall of office in Cara McGee fanart I would do it. And now she’s drawing for Black Canary? Be still my fangirl heart, I CAN’T EVEN.
3. Trungles (trungles.com)
I cannot tell you how much I love Trungles artwork. He has such a unique style and I love absolutely everything he does—he is also an artist who I have way too much (re: not enough) fanart of. Check out his tarot cards! They are exquisite.
4. Alex Castellanos (alexiscastellanos.com)
Like just. Her book fanart. Everything she does. I just. I can’t even some days, I love her artwork so much. I don’t know about you, but every time I hear that she’s drawing pre-order swag for a book, I hit the pre-order button SO HARD my mouse breaks.
5. MJ Erickson (kreugan.com)
So, if some of you pre-ordered my space fantasy, Heart of Iron, you might’ve come across MJ. I just really love her art. She’d be the wallpaper on my THIRD wall if I could wallpaper my office in fanart. Also, go buy all of her D&D pins. They’re fantastic.
6. Mildred Louis (artofmlouis.com)
To be honest, I found her fanart after I began reading her webcomic, Agents of the Realm (which I highly recommend!). Gosh, she just arts so well.
7. Erin Gladstone (eglads.tumblr.com)
I came for the cute pokemon and foxes, I stayed for LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE WHY IS EVERYTHING SO CUTE WHERE DID MY MONEY GO?
8. Nilah Magruder (nilahmagruder.com)
Came for the Hamilton, left with a lot of feels and M.F.K.
9. Grace P. Fong (gracepfong.com)
Look, all I’m saying is that whenever Grace posts an illustration for a book, the illustration ITSELF makes me want to go out and buy that book. If that’s not magic, I don’t know what is.
10. Dailen Odgen (dailenodgenillustrations.com)
And last but not least, here is Dailen Odgen. I just love everything she does (AND HER PINS! I LOVE HER DOGSTAR PINS!)
