Superman & Lois premieres on The CW on Tuesday, February 23, and we’re excited to see where this contemporary story about some very familiar characters takes us. In fact, Superman & Lois has us daydreaming about a small screen future for some of our favorite superheroes, many of whom are part of the Marvel and DC universes we’ve come to know and love. It’s so exciting to be a comics reader right now – and we’re so excited to share some of our favorites with you!
Superman Smashes the Klan by Gene Luen Yang
If you’re a big fan of Superman, look no further than Superman Smashes the Klan. It’s based on the 1940s Superman radio serials, reframed by Gene Luen Yang for a contemporary audience. When the Lee family moves from Chinatown to the center of Metropolis, teenagers Roberta and Tommy are over the moon to be sharing a zip code with their favorite superhero. But it’s not easy to be the only Asian family in Metropolis – especially in 1946. And when the Lee family wakes up one night to find the Klan of the Fiery Cross surrounding their house, Superman leaps into action. Can Tommy and Roberta help Superman defeat the Klan?

Miles Morales: Spider-Man Volume 1: Straight Out of Brooklyn by Saladin Ahmed
It’s no secret that Miles Morales is the superior Spider-Man, so we’re thrilled that Saladin Ahmed started writing for the teenage superhero. Balancing school, friends, and crime fighting has never been easy for Miles, but lately Brooklyn has been overwhelmed by a siege of supervillains. And Miles can’t even begin to imagine what evil lurks beneath the surface of this latest uprising. Can’t he just be a kid for once? We’re such fans of the Marvel universe that includes Miles Morales, so of course we love that these Spider-Man comics intersect with the Ms. Marvel series over in Jersey City. Who needs a bridge and tunnel when you can practically fly, right?

If you’re a fan of Eve Ewing’s poetry and badass female superheroes, you’ll definitely want to read Ironheart. Riri Williams is just your average teenage genius, studying at M.I.T. and creating technology that would make Tony Stark jealous if he wasn’t already working with her. Things are going well – except for the minor hiccup involving world leaders being held hostage by a supervillain. But when an old friend from Chicago comes to town, Riri’s entire world view is shaken. And when that same friend is kidnapped, Riri has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she has a state of the art A.I. system on her side – plus her nerves of steel and fierce independence. It looks like it’s time to step out of Tony Stark’s shadow and into her own future. Let’s go!
