The Empire Striketh Back: Join Us For An Epic “Yoricking” Contest With The 501st Legion

Posted by Eric Smith

When William Shakespeare's Star Wars came out last year, we had a great time teaming up with The 501st Legion. We ran some fun giveaways with them, and they even made Ian Doescher an honorary member of the legion. They're a great group of passionate fans, and we're really excited to be working with them again with this fun contest.

Quirk and the 501st would like to challenge you to take the best Star-Wars-themed "Poor Yorick" photo you can. Or as we're calling it… Yoricking.

See, there's a scene in William Shakespeare's Star Wars that involved Luke holding up a stormtrooper helmet. He says:

Alas poor, stormtrooper, I knew ye not,
Yet have I ta'en both uniform and life
From thee. What manner of man wert thou?
A man of inf'nite jest or cruelty?
A man with helpmate and with children too?
A man who hath his Empire serv'd with pride?
A man, perhaps, who wish'd for perfect peace?

And we want YOU to copy the scene, and send a photo of yourself Yoricking. There will be two grand prize winners, each of whom will receive a personalized sonnet by Ian Doescher inscribed in a copy of The Empire Striketh Back, a signed copy of the original William Shakespeare's Star Wars, a William Shakespeare's Star Wars poster, an Empire Striketh Back poster, and a set of 501st trading cards.

Two runners up on each network will win a copy of both books.

How can you enter? Easy! You can enter on Facebook and on Twitter. There will be one grand prize winner on each network.

ON TWITTER: Tweet your "Yoricking" photo to us (@QuirkBooks) and the 501st Legion (@501stLegion) with the hashtag #EmpireStrikethBack.

ON FACEBOOK: Share your "Yoricking" photo on the William Shakespeare's Star Wars Facebook fanpage, the Quirk Books Facebook fanpage, OR with the 501st Legion's Facebook fanpage. Make sure you use the hashtag #EmpireStrikethBack (so we can see you when going through the entries no matter what page you post on), and take the opportunity to tell us a bit about your photo! Is there a story behind your armor, your pose, the scenery, your helmet? We want to hear it! Note, you don't have to share across all three fanpages, but if you want to, go for it!

We'll periodically share our favorite photos as they come in, and will pool them all together at the end of the contest. Here's an example, a 501st member posing.

The contest starts today and runs until Friday, April 4th. Winners will be picked by Ian Doescher, and notified the following week. Good luck, we can't wait to see your photos!
