Delight Child Passengers with Shadow Puppets
Duration: 3–7 minutes
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Access to overhead lights
Flashlight (optional)
1. Stand up and announce that you have a special surprise for all of your fellow passengers. (Fig. A)
2. Request that they turn off their overhead lights and close their window shades, to make the cabin as dark as possible. (Fig. B)
3. Turn on an overhead light in your row that is farthest from your window. If possible, angle the bulb so it points toward the window screen. (Fig. C)
4. If your overhead light is not adjustable, ask a flight attendant for a flashlight. All air-plane cabins store flashlights in the event of an emergency. Explain that your wedding ring has dropped onto the floor and you wish to find it without disturbing your fellow passengers. Or, if you feel comfortable, invite the flight attendant to participate in your show by aiming the light against the plastic shade. (Fig. D)
5. Create your puppet show with the diagrams shown in Figure E.
6. Enhance your performance with funny animal sounds.
7. Respond to applause with deep and sincere bows.
