Doublet Racing, featured on page 101 of Gladstone’s Games to Go, is a new competitive twist on an old-fashioned word game popularized by Lewis Carroll, of Alice in Wonderland fame. It’s also a game you’ll need to master if you want to progress to one of Gladstone’s most challenging games: Attack of the Clones (page 105).

Here’s an old-fashioned Carroll puzzle to help you start honing your skills.

The goal is to transform one word into another in as few steps as possible, changing a single letter at a time. Each step of the transformation must be another real word.

For example, here’s one way to change WARM to COLD:
